Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 5): Packers 31, Bears 7 – Love Goes Off in Big Green Bay Win

The Bears got absolutely trounced by the Packers at Lambeau Field Sunday afternoon. The home quarterback, Jordan Love, was on an absolute heater hitting deep pass after deep pass while at the same time, backup Tyson Bagent was awful, throwing a pair of interceptions before getting benched.

Green Bay began the scoring with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Love to Christian Watson in the first quarter. They increased the advantage to 14-0 with a MarShawn Lloyd running touchdown in the second quarter.

Chicago got their only touchdown of the afternoon from RB D’Andre Swift late in the second quarter to bring the score to 14-7 at halftime. The Packers immediately came out of the gate in the third quarter with a 53-yard touchdown bomb to Watson for a second time.

Love eventually racked up over 350 passing yards and Green Bay scored all 17 points in the second half as they won by a final of 31-7. (Box score)

Why the Bears Lost

The secondary got completely torched and they had four turnovers.

Key Moment

The Packers touchdown to start the third quarter pretty much took the wind out of any potential Bears comeback.

Stats That Matter

  • Bagent was terrible with 87 passing yards and two interceptions.
  • Chicago only had 80 yards rushing against the normally bad Packers run defense.

Bottom Line

The Bears have done pretty good while missing their starting quarterback winning two of three games but Caleb Williams is much, much better than Bagent. Chicago’s secondary had been a pleasant surprise early on, unfortunately, they looked a lot more like the shaky version from last year in the game Sunday. Hopefully, that’s not a sign of things to come.

Next Up

The Bears travel to Atlanta to take on a surprisingly pesky Falcons squad Sunday, October 18 at 12:00pm CT in a matchup broadcast on FOX.
