Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers – Week 5 Game Preview: Overview, Keys to Game, Insights

The Bears (3-1) and backup quarterback Tyson Bagent rolled to victory over the Jets last Sunday for their third triumph of the season. The defense continues to be much improved over 2025 and the running game has been excellent. Now they head out on the road for a matchup against the hated rival Packers at Lambeau Field this Sunday.

Green Bay (2-2) has not looked good so far this season, needing overtime to beat the Jets and barely outlasting an undermanned Buccaneers team for their two wins. The mood is decidedly sour around the team right now even with a 2-2 record.

The Packers offense has taken a major step back with an average of 307 yards a game and 18.3 points scored per contest. Quarterback Jordan Love has still been effective with over 1000 yards and six touchdowns through four weeks. Four of those TDs have gone to wide receiver Christian Watson and star tight end Tucker Kraft is back from a knee injury.

The running game is nonexistent for the Cheese Heads after the suspension of starting running back Josh Jacobs for domestic violence before the season. They are averaging just 58 yards per game on the ground, far and away the worst in the NFL.

Green Bay’s defense is really hurting without the services of the injured Micah Parsons, allowing 26.3 points per game. They have been pretty good against the pass, but just like on the offense, the big problems is stopping the run where they are allowing 139.9 yards a game.

This is a rivalry game so even if the opponent doesn’t look good strange things can happen when they get together. The Bears also got some bad news when it was announced running back Kyle Monangai, fresh off a huge game against the Jets, would miss the game with a toe injury. If they can get a win in this one it will put Chicago in excellent position in the division with Caleb Williams hopefully returning next week.

Where to Watch/Listen

  • Sunday, October 11 at 12:00pm CT on FOX, WBBM Radio (English), and WRTO Radio (Spanish).

Keys to Victory

Here are my keys to Sunday’s game. If these things happen, the Bears should have a shot to win.

  1. Make the Packers one-dimensional on offense. Keep the running game completely ineffective and it will force Love to try and win the game entirely with his arm.
  2. D’Andre Swift needs to step up in the running game. Monangai has taken up the slack for Swift the past couple of games but with him out, the Bears starting running back needs to have a big game.
  3. Avoid turnovers by Bagent. Chicago’s backup QB threw an interception Sunday and got away with three more almost interceptions dropped by the Jets. Mistakes like that might give Green Bay a lifeline in this game.

Don’t Tell Me the Odds

The Bears are favored by 1.5 points on the road at Lambeau Field Sunday. The expectation is for a pretty low-scoring game with the over/under at 45.5.

It’s Football Weather

The weather in Green Bay is very good with a game-time temperature of 72 with partly cloudy skies.

My Prediction

Chicago’s defense should continue to have success against the Packers Sunday, especially on the ground. Offensively, the Bears should be able to put up just enough points to win by a margin of 21-17.
