Bears Sign Center Coleman Shelton to a One-Year Deal

The Bears continued to try and solidify their offensive line signing former Rams center, Coleman Shelton, to a one-year contract Thursday. Shelton had been Los Angeles’ starting center for the past two seasons before entering free agency.

Undrafted out of the University of Washington in 2018 he caught on with the Rams in 2019 and eventually worked his way into the starting lineup. The offensive line struggled for Sean McVay’s team in 2022 but gelled very nicely in 2023 as Los Angeles returned to the playoffs. Shelton played 17 games last year and was a key part of the unit even if he wasn’t a standout.

The Bears have had a very difficult time finding a passable center the past few seasons and were looking for a solid option. Between this signing and the trade for C/G Ryan Bates from Buffalo, Chicago has two decent options at center. The hope is one of them will step up and take the job, if not, the commitment to both is not huge and they can easily move on.
