Bears Place RB Khalil Herbert on IR

The Bears suddenly potent offense suffered a big blow on Tuesday when they placed second-year running back Khalil Herbert on injured reserve. Herbert appeared to injure his leg on a kick-off return in the loss against the Lions Sunday.

The sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech had 643 rushing yards this season, 11th most in the NFL, and was pushing starter David Montgomery for playing time. It will definitely hurt Chicago’s number one ranked rushing attack.

Herbert will be eligible to come off the IR in four weeks but it’s unclear if he will. With the playoffs unlikely, the Bears may play it safe and sit their promising running back for the rest of the year.
