The Chicago Bears Culture Shift Has Made Them Better
Past regimes have destroyed the Bears. How are they being built back up?
Any fan of the Chicago Bears knows change is happening. It’s a change that we, as Bears fans, have not seen since the days of Lovie Smith. The Bears are not only winning, but they are also confident and fight until the end. In the recent past, they would have folded under pressure or worse, been blown out and not even given themselves a shot at winning. The old Bears wouldn’t even try, it seemed, or they would try, and things would get fumbled away by the coaching staff or the players on the field.
Entering a New Era
New Bears head coach Ben Johnson is a godsend. He brings something the last few head coaches have failed to. Common sense, an approach that gets the players excited, and a staff that is not only mature but also understands everything about football and knows what to do in all situations. Johnson’s ability to assemble a strong staff has been perhaps the biggest reason why this team has turned things around. They seem to be making a big difference.
The Bears brass knew what they were getting from Johnson, but he was a much bigger surprise and worked out much better than they thought. Sure, he’s got this team winning much earlier than most thought they would, but he has organization and player happiness exploding. Things look “normal” so far. There isn’t any locker room trouble, and it seems as if everyone is getting along.
Things in Chicago, with the Bears, look very good.
The new era the Bears are heading into is one of winning, organization, and normalcy. This is what the team has lacked for the last several seasons.
The Johnson Effect is Real
You have heard some of the players making comments about what they are experiencing with Johnson at the helm. There is a lot of positive talk, and it appears as if there is hope in the locker room. There isn’t any infighting or players taking to the media to voice their frustrations. Players are stepping up as leaders, and they are being held accountable by these leaders and the coaching staff.
This is what happens when you have a coach who knows what he’s doing and understands football. You never saw this with coaches like Matt Gnagy and Marc Trestman. Those were two significantly inferior coaches when compared to Johnson. Johnson is the real deal, and the Bears have found someone who might be the savior of this franchise, making it a long-term winner.
As mentioned before, Johnson did bring a powerful staff to the Bears, and that has likely helped. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen has been huge despite the fact that the defense has struggled at times. His coaching ability was paramount in the game against the Steelers. With many injuries to starters on defense, few thought the Bears were going to win.
Even as players continued to get hurt as the game went on, the defense kept rotating new guys in and they shone. The defense came up big even though many of their starters were on the bench. The whole game was an example of superior coaching and players playing their hardest to beat a winning team.
Great Talent
If you look at the Bears’ roster, you may think there isn’t a lot of great talent. If anything, there is a lot of solid depth and some strong starters who have given their all to make this team the winner it is. It will be interesting to see if any of the Bears players will make the Pro Bowl. Over the last few seasons, very few Bears have landed a spot in the NFL’s All-Star game. But there are several who deserve a spot on the NFL’s star-studded roster for the performance that they have put on this season. Guys like cornerback Nashon Wright, Montez Sweat, Rome Odunze, Darnell Wright, and even Caleb Williams deserve some kind of recognition. Will they get it? It’s hard to say, but they deserve it.
The Bears brass is assembling a mighty team that will eventually be the best in the NFC North. It’s going to take another year or two to get them to the level where they can compete to get to the Super Bowl, but the Bears are going to be back, and they will be back for a while.
Should You Get Your Hopes Up?
As with any team, especially the Bears, it’s hard to get your hopes up for them to make the Super Bowl. Even former champions, the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs, are not guaranteed to get to the big game. The Bears, right now, have an equal chance of making the Super Bowl as those previously mentioned teams. But can the Bears do it? Should fans get their hopes up over the possibility, or will it all be for naught?
You can bet the coaching staff has the players believing they can win a Super Bowl. The attitude around the locker room is very positive, and players are motivated. If they can keep this up, the Bears are going to do some great things. Believe it!
So yes, Bears fans, it is time to get your hopes up. The Bears are about to deliver for a fan base that has been waiting for so long. A team that is well structured, inspirational, and full of great personalities.
It might be possible that we could have the second coming of a great Super Bowl contender with this new team, except, instead of a defensive powerhouse, they would either be an offensive one or balanced on both sides of the ball. That would make Bears fans extremely happy!
