Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers – Week 14 Game Preview: Overview, Keys to Game, Insights
The Bears (9-3) just played their best game of the season, rushing for nearly 300 yards to beat the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles in Philadelphia on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The victory has temporarily lifted Chicago to the top of the NFC standings and set up a battle for first place in the division against the rival Packers this Sunday.
Green Bay (8-3-1) grabbed headlines by trading for star linebacker Micah Parsons right before the start of the season. Expectations shot through the roof after the deal but it’s been a roller coaster so far in 2025 including head-scratching losses at the Browns and to the Panthers at Lambeau Field. They have won their last two to get back within a half a game of the Bears.
Quarterback Jordan Love had serious MVP buzz before the season but he got off to a slow start. He has come on as the year has progressed however, and he has 19 touchdowns with only three interceptions. The Packers suffered a big blow when dominant tight end Tucker Kraft tore his ACL in November.
RB Josh Jacobs is on his way to another thousand yard rushing season and Romeo Doubs has been their most consistent wide receiver. Overall, the offense is in the middle of the pack for the Pack averaging 24.5 points per game, although, it can be very dangerous when it gets going.
The addition of Parsons has brought the Packers defense to another level in 2025 allowing just 18.8 points per game. The former Cowboys pass rusher has 12.5 sacks and is joined by Rashad Gary (7.5 sacks) to form an effective one-two punch on the defensive line. It’s not a good strategy to fall behind and allow the defense to tee off on the quarterback late in the game.
Despite all of the history between Green Bay and Chicago they haven’t had many games over the years where both teams were playoff contenders. They face off again in a couple of weeks and it’s likely these games will decide the division champion. The Bears have given themselves a chance to make a good year into a great one, it’s time to see if they can make the most of the opportunity.
Where to Watch/Listen
- Sunday, December 7 at 3:25pm CT on FOX, WBBM Radio (English), and WRTO Radio (Spanish).
Keys to Victory
Here are my keys to Sunday’s game. If these things happen, the Bears should have a shot to win.
- Try to limit big plays in the passing game. The Packers will take deep shots throughout the game with Love trying to connect with his speedy wide receivers on the outside. Their offense can grind to a halt sometimes when those shots don’t land.
- Keep the running game going. The Bears had a ton of success against the Eagles with both D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai running for over 100 yards. That will be crucial to slow down Green Bay’s fierce pass rush.
- Caleb Williams keeping plays alive with his legs. Chicago’s quarterback has done a nice job of scrambling to extend plays that have broken down and make something out of nothing.
- Take the crowd out of the game early. The Bears need to jump ahead in the first half not only to neutralize the Packers defense but also to keep the fans quiet and blunt the Lambeau home-field advantage.
Don’t Tell Me the Odds
The Packers are favored by 6.5 points at home against the Bears Sunday afternoon. Vegas expects a moderate amount of scoring with the over/under set at 44.5.
It’s Football Weather
The forecast for Lambeau Field Sunday afternoon is a brutal 19 degrees with partly cloudy skies and a northwest wind at 10 miles an hour.
My Prediction
The cold weather is probably going to make the ground game and defense very important in this one.It will be a low-scoring game that will come down right to the end. The Packers home-field advantage will be the deciding factor in a 13-10 win.
