Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 13): Bears 24, Eagles 15 – Chicago Runs Wild in Fifth Consecutive Victory
The Bears faced their most difficult opponent of the season Friday afternoon when they took on the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. This week, there was nothing fluky about the performance of Ben Johnson’s squad as they dominated the home team for a fifth consecutive victory.
Chicago moved the ball effectively in their opening drive but came up short on a fourth down deep in Philadelphia territory. They were more successful on their second possession with running back D’Andre Swift scoring a 3-yard touchdown to make it 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Eagles responded with a field goal but the Bears matched it to take a 10-3 lead heading into halftime. Despite having a major advantage in time of the possession, they were unable to expand on is their advantage in the third quarter.
Philadelphia finally broke through when Jalen Hurts hit A.J. Brown for a 33-yard touchdown pass, although, a missed extra point kept Chicago up 10-9. It appeared that the Eagles were going to jump into the lead after quarterback Caleb Williams got intercepted, but then CB Nahshon Wright stripped Hurts on a tush push to get the ball back.
The Bears continued to run the ball all over the field as they drove 87 yards to eventually score on a 4-yard run by running back Kyle Monangai to increase their margin to 17-9 in the fourth quarter. They put the game on ice after that when Williams went deep to TE Cole Kmet from 28 yards out to make it to 24-9.
Brown picked up a second touchdown reception but it was too little too late and Chicago won the game 24-15. (Box score)
Why the Bears Won
They ran for nearly 300 yards and created a couple of turnovers with a much better defensive performance.
Key Moment
The Eagles were inside the red zone driving to take the lead when Wright forced the fumble and the Bears never looked back from there.
Stats That Matter
- Swift ran for 125 yards and a touchdown using his speed to exploit holes in the defense.
- Monangai went with power to rack up 130 yards and a touchdown.
- Williams didn’t do much but he didn’t have to, mostly avoiding mistakes and throwing for 154 yards.
Bottom Line
This was a much more impressive win for the Bears over a very good team. The return of cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon made a huge difference defensively and are going to be critical going forward. This victory puts Chicago in excellent shape to reach the playoffs and shows what a huge difference coaching can make.
