Chicago Bears Score and Recap (Week 3): Bears 31, Cowboys 14 – Williams Throws 4 TDs In First Win Of 2025
Things did not go well for the Bears in the first two games of the 2025 season, but it was a much different story Sunday afternoon against the Cowboys. Chicago’s offense looked fantastic tearing up and down the field against Dallas and winning comfortably.
The Cowboys drove deep into opposition territory in their first drive but Tyrique Stevenson ripped the ball away from running back Javonte Williams for a big turnover. Caleb Williams connected on two long passes in the ensuing drive, including a 35-yard touchdown strike to Rome Odunze to give the Bears a 7-0 lead.
After a Dallas field goal, head coach Ben Johnson dialed up a trick play calling a slow-developing flea flicker that worked beautifully as Williams hit rookie Luther Burden III for his first career touchdown from 65 yards out. The road team responded at that point with 11 consecutive points, including a connection between Dak Prescott and George Pickens for a 2-yard TD and the game was tied after a successful two point conversion.
The Bears did not fold when faced with adversity this time responding with Cairo Santos kicking a 30-yard field goal to give the home team a 17-14 advantage. Then the young Chicago quarterback engineered a 71-yard drive at the end of the half that was paid off by a 10-yard connection with tight end Cole Kmet and it was suddenly 24-14 at the break.
The Bears only had one possession in the third quarter but it lasted nearly 10 minutes and ended in a touchdown. The drive featured 12 running plays with five different ball carriers before finishing with a short pass to D.J. Moore. The Cowboys did not score again and the game ended with an impressive 31-14 Chicago victory. (Box score)
Why the Bears Won
Williams played an excellent game and they did not turn the ball over.
Key Moment
The Bears used the running game to bleed the clock and close out a lead in the third quarter, two things they have struggled to do in recent seasons.
Stats That Matter
- Caleb Williams had his best game as a pro with 298 yards and four touchdowns. He avoided mistakes and made good decisions all day.
- Burden has been invisible the first two weeks but he was not in this one with 101 yards and a touchdown on three catches.
Bottom Line
That was a massive improvement in play from the debacle in Detroit for the Bears. Clearly, a bad Dallas defense helped but it was still very encouraging to see the franchise quarterback perform so well. Dennis Allen also got much better results from his beleaguered defense which was impressive against a good Cowboys offense. The next goal is to get this kind of effort consistently, hopefully this is just the first step.
Next Up
The Bears head to Vegas for a Week 4 matchup with the Raiders next Sunday at 3:25pm CT on CBS.
